Activities:
1. Learnership Phase Five Project

The KZN Regional Office is in a process of finalizing Learnership Phase 5 Project. We are busy conducting verification exercise so that Providers and Companies can be paid. We are appealing for our stakeholders’ cooperation and support as we embark on this exercise. We also would like to appeal to our valued stakeholders to continue to upload learner achievements because the payment of the last trance is subject to the completion of this exercise.
2. Discretionary Grant 2006 / 2007 Project

The Discretionary grant project for 2006 / 2007 financial year made provision for funding of the following six windows
  • SMME Support
  • Sector Skills Priority areas which included HIV/AIDS Awareness, Life Skills and Primary Health Care
  • Learning Programmes
  • Adult Basic Education and Training
  • Workplace Employment Experience Grant, and
  • New Venture Creation.
Finally we are closing down the SSP and SMME windows. We will continue to administer the other windows as they are medium term projects. We would like to thank all the Providers and Companies who participated in these interventions, thereby contributing to skills development in our country.
3. Ongoing Stakeholder Liaison

As part of its endeavor to keep our stakeholders posted about new developments in our sector and to discuss matters of common concern we have set up a stakeholder Forum. The stakeholder forum meets on a quarterly basis and as well as when the need arises. Members are encouraged to bring forward matters to be incorporated to the agenda and this gets distributed to members before the meeting. The next meeting is scheduled to take place on 22 October 2007.
4. WSP / ATR Verification visits

The WSP / ATR Report is nearing completion. We would like to thank all Employers, Skills Development Facilitators and Independent Skills Development Facilitators for the timeous submission of WSP /ATR documents. As part of quality checks we will be visiting and phoning Companies to verify and confirm information received. Please bear with us as we complete this important assignment. Please bear with us as we complete this important task which is in line with statute.
5. ABET Grant Application

In its stride to alleviate illiteracy problem in our country and to contribute to accessing general education opportunities for the people in our sector W&RSETA is embarking on ABET project. Our stakeholders are encouraged to take advantage of this intervention by applying to participate. Please visit our website for information guideline document and the application form. Please note that the deadline for submission of application form is 30 September 2007. The application forms are to be submitted directly to our head office in Pretoria.
6. Reaching out to underserved AREAS

As another attempt to best serve our stakeholders we have divided the Province into four Zones with each zone having a dedicated person who serve as a one stop shop advising our stakeholders with all information regarding skills development. The Zones are demarcated as follows:
Zone 1 (Regional Coordinator: Angel Gambushe): North of Durban up to the Border of Mozambique covering areas like Umhlanga, Inanda, Tongaat, Ndwendwe Stanger Mandini, Empangeni, Richards Bay, Mtuba, Hluhluwe, Manguzi, Ngwanase, etc,
Zone 2 (Regional Coordinator: Khanyi Ndaba):South of Durban to Eastern Cape Border and this cover areas like Clairwod, Chatsworth, Toti, Margate, Port Shepstone, etc.
Zone 3 (Regional Coordinator: Mano Persad): West of Durban including Westville, Pinetown, PM Burg, Howick, Greytown, Estcourt, etc. Zone 4 (Regional Coordinator: Declan Lawson): This covers areas like Ladysmith, Newcastle, Vryheid, Pongola, Nongoma Ulundi, Melmoth, Dundee, Nquthu, etc. Please feel free to contact them should you need help.
