Support for 2 000 SMMEs in Skills Development Intitiaves.
Objective: To support NSDS (National Skills Development Strategy) Objective three that states: “to stimulate and support skills development in small businesses”
At least 3 500 learners from 2 000 SMMEs within the wholesale and retail sector will benefit from this initiative.
Skills training will be offered in the following Priority Learning Areas:

Customer Care 4
Sales and Marketing 4
Computer Skills 2
Merchandising 2
Financial Management / Business Start-Up

W&RSETA’s interventions to promote SMME’s participation in Skills Development
To assist the SMMEs to participate in the Skills Revolution, the W&RSETA Board has approved the following initiatives:
Contract Skills Development Facilitators
  1. Contracted independent Skills Development Facilitators to visit constituent SMMEs around the country to assist them in drafting their Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs) and provide guidance of how best to implement them.
Develop Learning Programmes
  1. Once the W&RSETA’s unit standards are updated, W&RSETA will develop Learning Programmes which will be circulated to all our registered compnies, including SMMEs.
Achieving the MoU target with Department of Labour
  1. It is envisaged that 900 people from 300 selected SMMEs will successfully complete the Financial Management course by March 2003.
These above-mentioned interventions are funded by W&RSETA. W&RSETA SMME department will endeavour to be pro-active and strive to form business linkagers will all the relevant stakeholders in pursuit of the ultimate goal -
“Ensuring active participation of AMMEs in Skills Development”.
