Welcome to W&RSETA
| Vision & Mission

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) was established in 2000 in terms of the Skills Development Act (as amended). The public entity aims to facilitate the skills development needs of the Wholesale and Retail (W&R) sector through the implementation of learning programmes, disbursement of grants and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS).

SETAs are entities of the Department of Higher Education and Training. There are 21 SETAs; each servicing a specific economic sector of the Country.

The W&RSETA invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced professionals for the vacant position of Senior Manager: Enterprise Risk Management.

2019/20 WORKPLACE EXPERIENCE PROGRAMME FOR TVET COLLEGE GRADUATES

Companies within the Wholesale and Retail Sector are invited to participate in the 2019/20 Graduate Placement programme for TVET College graduates who have completed 18-month workplace experiential training.

Interested companies are requested to submit a letter of intent to the W&RSETA via email at placements2020@wrseta.org.za by 15 July 2019

Graduates must be placed by no later than 30 September 2019.

SUBMISSION OF INVOICES TO THE CORRECT EMAIL ADDRESS

ATTENTION: SERVICE PROVIDERS

You are kindly reminded that all compliant invoices should be submitted to the W&RSETA official invoice email address (invoiceadmin@wrseta.org.za) to ensure timeous processing of invoices.

Stakeholders are further reminded that the turnaround time for payment of compliant invoices is 30 working days.

Your cooperation in this regard would be appreciated.


2019/20 SECTOR SKILLS PLAN (SSP) INPUT

Stakeholders are requested to submit input on the SSP for the attention of the Sector Skills Planning & Research Department on wrsetassp@wrseta.org.za as we prepare for the final submission on 1 August 2019.


UPDATE ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE 2018/19 RETAIL MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Dear Stakeholder

The W&RSETA is pleased to announce that the 2018/19 Retail Management Development Programme (RMDP) has now commenced. Stakeholders are informed that Henley Business School has been appointed to deliver the 2018/19 RMDP of the W&RSETA. The Programme will be implemented in three provinces; Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The group has been divided into six; three in Gauteng, two in Western Cape and one in KwaZulu-Natal. The commencement dates for the Gauteng groups are as follows:

Cohort 1 – 10 June 2019
Cohort 2 – 24 June 2019
Cohort 3 – 01 July 2019

Dates for the other provinces will be communicated in due course. Please note that the Henley Business School will send letters to the selected delegates to inform them about these arrangements.


NOTICE TO STAKEHOLDERS PARTICIPATING IN THE W&RSETA PROJECTS 2011/12 to 2016/17

Following the communique of 13 November 2018 on the W&RSETA Backlog project to finalise all outstanding projects by 30 December 2018, the W&RSETA wishes to inform stakeholders that the project has been extended to 30 June 2019.

2019/20 SECTOR SKILLS PLAN (SSP) CONSULTATION SESSIONS

Wholesale and retail companies are invited to the annual stakeholder consultation session on the SSP in preparation for submission to the DHET. Stakeholder participation is critical to ensure that key skills requirements are prioritised for the Wholesale and Retail Sector. Sessions will be convened nationally between 4 June and 23 July 2019.

NATIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PLAN PUBLISHED

On 7 March 2019, the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Ms Naledi Pandor, after consultation with the National Skills Authority, published propagated the highlight anticipated National Skill Development Plan (NSDP)which replaces the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS). The NSDP will become the blue print for skills development in South Africa and will be implemented from 1 April 2020.

TAXATION LAWS AMEDNMENT ACT

Stakeholders are informed of the amendment to the Unemployment Insurance (UIF) Act through the Taxation Laws Amendment Act, No. 17 of 2017 which now includes 18.2 (unemployed) learners on Learnership programmes in the UIF provision. Please refer to the communique that addresses this issues, particularly the impact on contracts in terms of Section 18(2) of the Skills Development Act, No. 9 of 1999 (“SDA Act”).

Mandatory Grants payment dates Mandatory Grants payment dates Kindly be informed that Mandatory Grant payments for the 2018/19 Financial Year will be processed on the following dates:

  • Quarter 1 – 2018/19 – on or before 30 September 2018
  • Quarter 2 – 2018/19 – on or before 31 December 2018
  • Quarter 3 – 2018/19 – on or before 31 March 2019
  • Quarter 4 – 2018/19 – on or before 30 June 2019
