Welcome to W&RSETA

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) was established in 2000 in terms of the Skills Development Act (as amended). The public entity aims to facilitate the skills development needs of the Wholesale and Retail (W&R) Sector through the implementation of learning programmes, disbursement of grants and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP).

SETAs are entities of the Department of Higher Education and Training. There are 21 SETAs; each servicing a specific economic sector of the Country.

 

STAKEHOLDER NOTICE - CALL FOR EMPLOYER INPUT: PROPOSED WSP/ATR (ESS) TOOL

The W&RSETA is inviting its stakeholder employers to provide input on the proposed Employer Skills Survey (ESS) that the Department of Higher Education and Training plans to introduce. The ESS aims to diagnose the critical skills mismatches between the education system and labour market needs as part of the WSP/ATR process to guide SETA funding for responsive training interventions, apprenticeship expansion, and transformation.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS - WHOLESALE AND RETAIL RESEARCH LEADERSHIP CHAIRS GOVERNANCE BOARDS AND MANAGEMENT OPERATING COMMITTEES

The W&RSETA Research Leadership Chairs at Walter Sisulu University and University of Western Cape are inviting nominations for suitably qualified and experienced individuals to serve on the Governance Boards and Management Operating Committees for the Wholesale and Retail Research Leadership Chairs.

STAKEHOLDER UPDATE: OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL FOR W&RSETA RFQs AND TENDERS

The W&RSETA would like to alert all current and prospective service providers regarding fraudulent communications related to Request for Quotations (RFQs) and tenders. Kindly note that the W&RSETA does not send correspondences for tenders and RFQs via WhatsApp or any other digital communication except for official emails ending with @wrseta.org.za.

W&RSETA POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS

The W&RSETA Research Leadership Chairs, are inviting applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellowships to appoint dynamic candidates interested in conducting innovative and sector-relevant research that responds to skills demand. The research will focus on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, including Artificial Intelligence and the broader transformative potential of emerging technologies, aligned with the W&RSETA Research Agenda. Successful candidates will contribute to the implementation of the Research Agenda in collaboration with the designated Research Leadership Chairs for 18 months.

INVITATION – 2026/27 SECTOR SKILLS PLAN CONSULTATION SESSIONS

W&RSETA stakeholder are invited to the annual Sector Skills Plan (SSP) consultations and stakeholder engagements.  The SSP consultation is the most critical stakeholder engagement provides stakeholders (employers, organised labour, business associations, academia) a platform to influence the skills development priorities for W&RSETA funding focus.

The W&RSETA will conduct collective consultation sessions, focused group engagements and executive dialogues, to facilitate robust, solution-driven discussions among decision-makers and role players.

STAKEHOLDER NOTICE – INTER-SETA TRANSFER PROCESS

The Wholesale and Retail SETA (W&RSETA) hereby invite stakeholders who are currently registered with other SETAs in terms of Section 5 of the Skills Development Levy Act (SDL) prescribed by South African Revenue Services (SARS) and need to transfer their registration to W&RSETA to use the following process. 

Stakeholders should use the attached application form to apply for the Inter-SETA transfer and email to SETAtransfers@wrseta.org.za. A SARS guideline with contact details is also attached for clarity.
