Welcome to W&RSETA

The Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA) was established in 2000 in terms of the Skills Development Act (as amended). The public entity aims to facilitate the skills development needs of the Wholesale and Retail (W&R) Sector through the implementation of learning programmes, disbursement of grants and monitoring of education and training as outlined in the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP).

SETAs are entities of the Department of Higher Education and Training. There are 21 SETAs; each servicing a specific economic sector of the Country.

 

W&RSETA 2025 BURSARY SCHEME

Public and private TVET and HET institutions, bursary administrators, W&RSETA levy-paying companies and Retail Chairs are invited to apply for bursaries on behalf of students pursuing retail and related qualifications.

The scheme will prioritise wholesale and retail related qualifications that address the Sector Priority Skills and Hard-to-Fill Vacancies listed in the W&RSETA Sector Skills Plan.

Applications must be submitted via the stakeholder portal on www.wrseta.org.za no later than 21 February 2024.

2025/26 MANDATORY GRANTS  APPLICATIONS ARE NOW OPEN

The W&RSETA Management Information System is now open for applications for the 2025/26 Mandatory Grants. Companies may submit the 2025/26 Annexure II documents  on or before 30 April 2025.

NATIONAL SKILLS AWARDS POSTPONED

Stakeholders are informed that the National Skills Awards, hosted by the National Skills Authority (NSA) which were scheduled for 30 January 2025 have been postponed until further  notice.

SUBMISSION FOR PUBLIC VERIFICATION: CURRICULUM AND QUALIFICATION DOCUMENTS

Stakeholders are invited to make comments on the approved qualifications by the QCTO for implementation in the Wholesale and Retail Sector.

The enclosed Occupational Curriculum developed by the W&RSETA SME Working Group is being published for comment  prior to submission to the QCTO for approval.

Please submit input on or before 28 February 2025.

W&RSETA POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW

The W&RSETA Wholesale and Retail Leadership Chairs invite suitably qualified candidates to participate in sector-specific research on skills demand and supply. The research will analyse the factors shaping skills requirements within the Wholesale and Retail Sector, with a focus on market trends, consumer behaviour, workforce transitions, and the impact of the 4IR on skills development.

UPDATE ON DISCRETIONARY GRANT 2024/25 AND 2025/26 FUNDING WINDOW FOR SPECIAL PROJECTS

Stakeholders are informed of the conclusion of the review process for the Discretionary Grant 2024/25 and 2025/26 Funding Window for Special Projects.

The list of approved applications that will be considered for implementation based on operational requirements and budget availability is published for information. The approval is valid for projects to be implemented until 31 March 2026.

ERRATUM – PAYROLL SPECIALIST

Applicants are informed about an error in the salary details for the position of Payroll Specialist published on 15 December 2024. The position is at C4 level on a salary of R562 024.00.

STAKEHOLDER NOTICE: GUIDELINES ON THE DIRECTIVE ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF AND TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR PRE-2009 QUALIFICATIONS

Stakeholder attention is drawn to the Gazette by the Minister of Higher Education, Dr NP Nkabane, providing guidelines on the implementation of the Directive on the Implementation of and Transitional Arrangements for pre-2009 Qualifications (legacy qualifications). The last enrolment date for these qualifications may be extended by up to two years if meeting the criteria set by the SAQA and QCTO.

PAYMENT DELAYS FOR MANDATORY GRANT

W&RSETA stakeholders are informed of technical challenges on the Skills Development Levy System of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET). The resultant impact of this issue is that the W&RSETA is unable to process payments for Mandatory Grants due to employer files not provided from August 2024 to date.

Payments will be made once the issue has been resolved by  DHET.

We apologise for the inconvenience of this technical challenge on our stakeholders.

ENROLMENT EXTENSION FOR LEGACY QUALIFICATIONS

The W&RSETA wishes to provide further clarity regarding the DHET directive on the implementation and transitional arrangements for pre-2009 qualifications, gazetted on 3 June 2024.

Skills development providers whose accreditation is scheduled to lapse should liaise with the QAs in their respective provinces to apply for an extension of the qualifications enrolment end date before expiration of the accreditation.
